Dr. D. Saravanan, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., is an accomplished Assistant Professor at the Centre for Laboratory Animal Technology and Research, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, with extensive teaching and research experience in microbiology, biotechnology, and laboratory animal research. His academic journey includes a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Vels College of Science, an M.Sc. in Applied Microbiology from the University of Madras, an M.Phil. in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University, and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Bharathiyar University, reflecting a strong multidisciplinary foundation. He began his career in the biotech industry with LifeCell Asia and later transitioned into academia, serving as Assistant Professor at Sri Sankara College before joining Sathyabama Institute, where he continues to contribute extensively to preclinical research and laboratory animal studies. Dr. Saravanan has guided numerous students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, completed multiple consultancy projects, and published widely in peer-reviewed journals, including contributions indexed in WoS and Scopus, while also submitting gene sequences to GenBank. His research focuses on microbial bioprospecting, antimicrobial discovery, regenerative medicine, osteochondral tissue engineering, Alzheimer’s disease models, and stem cell technologies, integrating fundamental and applied sciences with translational outcomes. He has secured funded projects from national agencies, contributed to consultancy work on advanced biomedical applications, and pioneered approaches in stem cell cryopreservation and microbial analysis. His achievements further include organizing workshops, participating in academic events, and serving on Institutional Animal Ethics Committees and as a nominee for regulatory bodies, reflecting his commitment to ethical and impactful research. As a life member of several professional bodies, Dr. Saravanan continues to advance innovation, scientific leadership, and translational research with significant contributions to healthcare, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability.
