Prof. Polkowska completed her M.Sc. in Inorganic Technology (1988), Ph.D. in Chemistry (1996), and Habilitation in Chemistry (2008) at Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland. She achieved the title of Full Professor in Chemistry in 2014.

Prof. Polkowska’s research investigates environmental pollution, particularly in polar regions. She has identified numerous organic and inorganic compounds, analyzing their impact on microorganisms and the broader environment. Her work includes statistical analysis, backward air mass trajectory analysis, and emission source analysis to interpret complex environmental data.
🏆 Honors & Awards:
She has received several prestigious awards, including the Medal of the Polish Commission of National Education (2002), the “Victor Kemula Medal” for outstanding achievements in analytical chemistry (2007), and a Gold Medal for her long-term contributions (2020). Prof. Polkowska has also been nominated for the Haagen-Smit Prize (2012) and the Eni Awards (2013, 2014).
Professional Experience: 💼
Prof. Polkowska has been with Gdańsk University of Technology since 1988, starting in the Department of Electrochemistry, Corrosion, and Materials Engineering, and later moving to the Department of Analytical Chemistry. She has conducted research at the University of Helsinki, the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, and the Polish Polar Station Hornsund in Svalbard. Additionally, she has served as a visiting professor at Vienna University of Technology multiple times.
