Elias Nelly Bapfakurera is pursuing a Ph.D. in forest sciences (Ecosystems, Biodiversity, and Conservation) at Sokoine University of Agriculture and the Swedish University of Agriculture. He holds a Master’s degree in soil and agroforestry management from the University of Rwanda-College of Agriculture. Elias completed his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering (soil and water management) at the Higher Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.

Elias’s research focuses on the role of indigenous knowledge systems in soil and water conservation. He is interested in exploring how traditional practices can contribute to sustainable agriculture and environmental management.

🏆 Honors & Awards:

Elias has received several awards and scholarships, including a scholarship for international training in Sustainable Urban Water and Sanitation in Sweden and Zambia. He has also been awarded a research grant from SEAD Rwanda-Netherlands.

Elias has over 13 years of experience as an agricultural professional. He has worked as a secondary teacher at GS-GIHIRA in Rwanda and as a community outreach and technology transfer officer at the University of Rwanda-College of Agriculture Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. Elias also served as an innovation and publication officer at the University of Rwanda, where he promoted agriculture technology transfer and innovation.
