Dr. Shen earned his Ph.D. in Measurement and Quantitative Methods and an M.S. in Applied Statistics from Michigan State University. He also holds an M.Ed. in the History of Education from East China Normal University and a B.A. in English Literature from Huazhong Agricultural University.

Dr. Shen’s research encompasses quantitative research methods, big data analytics, empirical research in social sciences, large-scale assessment and surveys, and measurement and evaluation. He is particularly interested in econometric methods, machine learning, and Bayesian inference.

Dr. Shen has been recognized with several awards, including the 2020 AERA Fellowship Award on the Study of Deeper Learning and the 2020 Dr. Eugene Owen Scholarship from ICPSR. He also received the Travel Fund Fellowship from Michigan State University in 2018, the Summer Research Fellowship in 2015, and multiple Excellent Student Scholarships from Huazhong Agricultural University.

Since August 2019, Dr. Shen has been an Assistant Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Prior to this, he served as an Adjunct Faculty and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Missouri – Columbia, where he was also a Senior Research Scientist at the Assessment Resource Center.
