Dr. Khalid Mohammed Almatar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. He holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom. Dr. Almatar is highly proficient in Arabic and English. His research interests include integrated transport planning, traffic congestion management, transit-oriented development, and sustainable urban mobility.

Dr. Almatar completed his Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (formerly University of Dammam), Saudi Arabia, in 2011. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Urban Design from the University of Colorado Denver, United States, graduating in 2015. In 2020, he obtained his Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Dr. Almatar’s research focuses on integrated transport planning, traffic congestion management, transit-oriented development, and sustainable urban mobility. He is particularly interested in finding solutions to ease urban traffic congestion in Saudi Arabian cities through comprehensive planning and management strategies.

Dr. Almatar has received several honors and awards for his academic and professional achievements. In 2021, he was awarded a Fellowship (FHEA). He also received a “Certificate of Highly Commended Presentation” at the Faculty of Science and Engineering Conference, University of Liverpool, in 2018. Additionally, he received a “Diploma of Honor” from Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University in 2011.

Dr. Almatar has a strong professional background in academia. He started his career as a Teaching Assistant at Dammam University in the field of Urban and Regional Planning in 2012. He later served as a Lecturer at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University from 2015 to 2020 before assuming his current position as an Assistant Professor at the same university in 2020.
